Growing Fast: Life in New Albany

With a 179.2% growth in population from 2000 to 2016, New Albany sits atop the list of fastest growing cities in Central Ohio. It’s no surprise that people are flocking to the white picket fence community of roughly 10,000 – New Albany was awarded “America’s #1 Suburb” by Business Insider in 2015.

What makes this community so desirable? As a premier master-planned community, every detail of New Albany has been curated to perfection. From the 36 miles of leisure trails and 2000 acres of parkland to the pedestrian friendly downtown, New Albany combines luxury living with small town charm, all in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Speaking of family-friendly, New Albany features a state-of-the-art 200 acre learning campus, each school within the district has earned a national Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.

Housing is serious business in New Albany with high demand and limited options. Zillow lists home ownership rate at 94% with limited public listings ranging from $200,000 - $4.9 Million. Matching the housing demand, multifamily real estate developers have built some of Central Ohio’s finest apartment communities in New Albany, including Albany Glen, Albany Woods, Albany Commons, and Albany Corners – both brand new apartment communities managed by Oakwood Management Company. OMC manages a total of four communities within the New Albany area.

The population isn’t the only thing growing in the Eagle city. Restaurants, retail, and entertainment are coming into the city at a fast rate. Cameron Mitchell Restaurant Group opened a new Hudson 29 location at the corner of Market and Main. Specialty boutiques and recognizable retail stores have opened in downtown as well.

Health and fitness are part of the master plan; the Philip Heit Center for Healthy New Albany provides community residents to a wide variety of fitness activities and wellness services. Located in downtown New Albany is Temple of Juice, a local craft juicer featuring not only amazing juices but juice coaching. Yes, juice coaching is a thing, and it’s awesome! Ask Greg Gould, owner of Temple of Juice – he will have you looking at juice in a whole new way.

Part of the charm of New Albany is the history. Celebrated annually every year during the Founders Day Festival, New Albany’s rich history dates back to 1837. You can see relics from the early 1900’s on display at Eagle’s Pizza, a local favorite!

New Albany has a lot to offer and will continue to grow because of it. Whether you’re new to Columbus or a longtime Central Ohioan, New Albany is certain to have something for everyone.
