Oakwood News Living in Columbus
Pet Perfection in the Capital City

Columbus has gone to the dogs, and cats – in the best way possible. The Central Ohio area is becoming a haven for pet owners, with new services and stores benefiting our residents’ furry friends popping up every day. According to the Humane Society an estimated 72% of renters have pets. Pet-friendly housing, though, can be difficult to find and tricky to navigate. All of Oakwood Property Management’s communities are pet-friendly,* and we can’t wait to meet your four-legged family member! Be sure to bring them by your leasing office or share your pictures of your pet enjoying your apartment.

What makes Columbus such a special place for pet parents? The city caters to pets, recognizing that dogs, cats, and more are considered family. In recent news, the city changed its laws to reflect the city’s pet-friendly status. Dogs are now allowed on patio spaces at restaurants, as permitted by the business, due to an outcry to let “pups on patios.”

That’s just the beginning, though. Here are a few of the perks of Columbus pet living:

You’ll find the city dotted with parks and trails for dog owners (and the adventurous cat owner) to enjoy. In the heart of downtown, the Scioto Mile provides a bright walking space with a beautiful skyline view, all just steps from awesome Oakwood communities like River & Rich and Highpoint on Columbus Commons. On the north side, the dog park at Alum Creek is a huge hit with our four-legged pals, as it lets them dive right into the water.

Many Oakwood communities offer onsite outdoor spaces for our dogs, such as bark parks. Polaris Place and Albany Glen both have expansive fenced-in areas for off-leash adventures, and Albany Woods has access to a serene walking trail to explore.

Columbus is becoming the trendiest city in the Midwest, always on top of the latest fads and arts. One of those fads is boutique specialty shops—people want to support local businesses that are tailored to their specific interests. Specialty shops for pets are cropping up around the city, letting Central Ohio pet owners cater to their furry friends’ wants and needs.

One high-end pet shop is Moochie & Co, located in the trendy Polaris Fashion Place mall. It provides dog and cat products for homeowners looking to keep their pet in fashion, with adorable collars and fun toys. Similarly, Mutts & Co offers kennel-free grooming services, a self-serve dog wash, and pet nutrition counseling around the Central Ohio area, as well as in-store events to help foster a sense of community among pet parents.

Oakwood is proud to be pet-friendly, with some of our communities offering truly unique amenities to make your pet feel at home. For example, the Pointe at Polaris has a free dog washing station to make your pooch look his best. The communities love spoiling a “Pet of the Month” and throwing pet-friendly events to make sure they’re included in the best parts of your living experience.

Columbus is proving itself as an ideal home for pet parents, and Oakwood Management Company is happy to support our residents’ four-legged friends. After all, nothing makes a house a home quite like the patter of your favorite housemate’s paws coming to greet you after a long day.
