Columbus is brimming with business-savvy thinkers, with more than a few of those starting their own businesses in the Arch City. Oakwood Management Company itself proudly calls Columbus home, with over 8,000 apartments under our management in Central Ohio. We love supporting and celebrating other local businesses, big and small, so here are a few of our favorites.
Homage. If you’ve been to an Ohio State football game in the past few years, you’ve definitely seen fans in Homage gear. The t-shirt company has been a local staple since 2007, creating sports and culture gear in super comfy materials. On their website, Homage describes their mission acutely by saying, “[O]ur clothing tells stories of triumph, individualism, and hustle, preserving the old school and creating new legacies.” We can’t think of a better way to pay Homage to Columbus than by wearing one of their tees.
Rogue Fitness. If you’ve lived in Columbus during March, you’ve quickly learned that it’s a hub for workout buffs with the annual Arnold Expo – but did you know we have our own Ohio-grown brands here, too? Rogue Fitness founded its 600,000 square foot campus in Columbus to expand its production of strength and conditioning equipment. The company has a national presence as the creator of some of the most reliable gym equipment.
Red Giraffe Designs. Columbus hosts its very own Etsy star at Red Giraffe Designs. The affordable jewelry shop has locations in the Short North, German Village, Easton, and Grandview, where patrons can stop by and get custom-stamped jewelry made right in front of them. The trendy shop is always adding new styles to their collection – and if you don’t see what you want, they can absolutely make it for you!
The Candle Lab. Nothing makes a house a home like lighting your favorite scented candle, and that can only be made better by having your own signature scent. The Candle Lab is an interactive shop where customers can choose to mix and match their own fragrances (with over 120 scents to choose from!) and pour a custom soy candle. Businesses can stop by to create a signature scent for their office space, making their mark on their customers’ noses in the best way possible. The Candle Lab also hosts special events and private parties to further the creative experience.
Jeni’s Ice Cream. Jeni’s Ice Cream could be described as Columbus’s own hometown hero, as many a tough day or bad breakup has been cured by a scoop of her signature Salty Caramel. Founded by Jeni Britton Bauer in the foodie hub that is the North Market, Jeni’s Ice Cream features a rotation of seasonal and signature flavors you won’t find at most ice cream shops. The buttery-smooth ice creams are free of synthetic ingredients and made from thoughtfully-sourced ingredients.
You can catch us shopping all of our favorite Columbus-based brands and cheering on the entrepreneurs starting their own Central Ohio businesses. You never know who will create the next big thing, but here’s hoping it starts in Columbus.
