It’s officially August, Columbus! As the end of summer rolls closer and closer, you may find yourself wanting to make the most of these warmer days in the Arch City. We compiled a list of our favorite end-of-summer events for you to look forward to in this new month.
Ohio State Fair. July 24 – August 4. If you haven’t been to the Ohio State Fair yet this year, there’s still time! The last weekend of the fair features just as many fun events for attendees of all ages. The Fair has operated since 1850, featuring agricultural competitions, horse shows, games, rides, exhibitions, and more. You can snag some signature fair food from the over 200 food vendors and then catch one of the many live performances from bands and entertainers. There’s something for everyone to do at the Ohio State Fair!
Dublin Irish Festival. August 2 – August 4. Not all festivals take place in the midst of Downtown! The Dublin Irish Festival takes you out to the gorgeous and green-filled suburb of Dublin for a weekend celebrating Irish culture. More than 100,000 people attend the event every year, where they can enjoy learning about Irish history and culture, sampling various foods, and attending performances on any of the seven stages.
Columbus Food Truck Festival. August 16 – August 17. Not share what you’re craving? This event will be sure to satisfy whatever it is your stomach is growling for! The Columbus Food Truck Festival gathers nearly 60 food trucks at the Scioto Mile and Bicentennial Park. You’ll also get to catch two stages of live music and other special events while supporting locally owned food trucks. The best part? Admission is free!
Wonderbus Music & Arts Festival. August 17 – August 18. Are you the kind of person who’s ahead of the curve on trends? You won’t want to miss Wonderbus, a brand new music festival taking place on the lawn at CAS! The music festival is family-friendly and appropriate for all ages, featuring such big name musicians as Walk the Moon, Chelsea Cutler, and X Ambassadors. This festival is a great option for families who want to bring their kids to a larger music event.
Breakaway Music Festival. August 23 – August 24. Breakaway Music Festival is a more typical music festival, featuring over 40 artists on two stages. The performers are primarily EDM and hip & hop artists, with musicians including Future, Young Thug, Matoma, Bassnectar, Louis The Child, and more. The festival takes place in MAPFRE Stadium and has food, drinks, and other activities for attendees to enjoy.
Columbus Summer Beerfest. August 24. Columbus is becoming more of a craft beer city, with new breweries cropping up all the time. The Beerfest is hosted at Express Live to show off both local beers and ones from around the country. The event features tons of local food trucks and live bands, all while benefiting the Animal Rescue Partners. Grab your beer drinking bottle and throw on a pretzel necklace because you won’t want to miss this one!
Urban Scrawl 13. August 24 – August 25. Looking for a summer event that’s a bit more artistic? Urban Scrawl 13 is the one for you! This free annual event occurs in Franklinton at 400 West Rich, right by Oakwood community River and Rich. You’ll get to see artists creating large format murals, hear DJs performing, and eat from local food trucks. Although there are adult beverages offered, the event is kid-friendly with a special “Scrawl Junior” area.
Columbus Greek Festival. August 30 – September 2. August ends with another signature Columbus festival, the Columbus Greek Festival at Annunciation Cathedral. This weekend-long fest celebrates the culture of Greece and Orthodox Christianity. You can tour the cathedral, shop beautiful authentic gifts, and eat yummy Greek foods. You won’t want to miss the traditional dancing, either!
