Oakwood CARES
Oakwood Residents Donate Over 13,500 Items to the Mid Ohio Food Bank

Starting in October, 55 of our communities participated in this year’s Columbus Apartment Association Food Drive, which directly benefits the Mid-Ohio Food Collective. Our communities were able to get creative by using social media and on-site marketing to engage residents to donate. As a whole, Oakwood residents came together to donate over 13,500 items to help families in need, which was the largest donation the food bank has ever received from one corporation! This equates to around 11,300 pounds of food, which will be able to provide 9,400 meals this holiday season!

The Mid-Ohio Food Collective is the largest food bank in Ohio, providing over 170,000 meals each day for hungry people in Central and Eastern Ohio. They serve a total of 20 counties and cover nearly 10,000 square miles of people. These people are, on average, missing 52 days of eating each year. Their goal is to eventually close the 144 million-meal gap in the Central and Eastern Ohio region. To learn more about the Mid-Ohio Food Collective, click here.

In addition, a very special shoutout goes to Oakwood’s Asherton of Dublin community and their residents for donating a total of 3,377 items alone. This was the largest donation from a single community across the communities participating in this year’s CAA Food Drive.

We are so appreciative of our amazing residents around our Oakwood Communities for their generous and giving spirits, our site teams for coordinating and collecting these donations, and our regional facilitators for coordinating the pickup and delivery of the donations. We couldn't have done this without you!
